ECCO and EEBO – Library OneSearch connections updated

To reflect a recent change in LLR’s subscription profile, links to the ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) and EEBO (Early English Books Online) services in Library OneSearch have been updated to connect to the JISC Historic Books collection.

Through the JISC Historic Books service, ECCO and EBBO can be searched independently or jointly, alongside a collection of nineteenth century books from the British Library.

Access to JISC Historic Books is by university username and password, from on-campus and off-campus.

New resource: 19th Century British Library Newspapers

Access to the 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection has been set-up in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; with an Athens username and password required for off-campus access. The resource can be added to eSearch Sub-Categories on request. The resource is described as follows:

The 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection contains full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library and includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country, university towns or new industrial towns in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The collection includes newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as the Reform movement, Chartism, and the Home Rule movement. So-called ‘penny papers’ aimed at the working and clerical classes are also present in the collection.

New resource: British Library Archival Sound Recordings

Access to the Archival Sound Recordings collection from the British Library has been enabled in eSearch. Access on-campus and off-campus (within the UK) is by Athens username and password. The resource is described as follows:

The British Library Archival Sound Recordings collection brings together 12,000 selected recordings of music, spoken word, and human and natural environments. These recordings can be played on the site (either using the built-in player or with a preferred alternative device), and downloaded and edited for educational use. Access to the recordings is not available from outside the UK.

A BL guide to relevant sound devices and audio applications can be accessed from the information icon for the resource in eSearch.

British Library: Archival Sound Recordings

Following a number of queries about establishing Athens authenticated access to the audio content in the BL: Archival Sound Recordings collection, we are currently awaiting receipt of the HE licence from the BL for our review. It is expected that we will be able to provide access to the audio content fairly early in the new year, and will set up access routes once this is available.
