Migrating resources to the new ProQuest platform

The following resources have been migrated from the CSA Illumina, Dialog DataStar and Chadwyck-Healey platforms to the new integrated ProQuest discovery platform:

* ASSIA (Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts)
* ARTBibibliographies Moderns
* Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
* British Periodicals, 1680s-1930s
* DAAI (Design and Applied Arts Index)
* IBSS (International Bibliography of the Social Sciences)
* Sociological Abstracts

* AEI (Australian Education Index)
* BEI (British Education Index)
* ERIC

Configurations for access to all these resources on the Proquest platform have been enabled in Library OneSearch, and their previous category and sub-category assignments recreated. Access to all of these resources is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. All of these resources are remote searchable in Library OneSearch.

For the titles in the British Periodicals, 1680s-1930s collection, SFX entries for the full-text content has been migrated from the Chadwyck-Healey to the new ProQuest platform. Outbound SFX integration (from the new platform to SFX) has also been configured and enabled.

Due to current licensing arrangements, in the native interface of the new ProQuest platform, the three education databases (AEI, BEI and ERIC) are managed separately from the other resources on the platform (see illustrations below), although the ERIC database appears in both ‘collections’.

In addition, full-text backfile access to The Economist (from 1992), currently available on the new ProQuest platform, has been enabled in SFX.

From Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Complete

Following the upgrade of LLR’s subscription to the EBSCOhost database from Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Complete, configurations for the resource have been updated in Library OneSearch and SFX.

All Category and Sub-Category assignments from ASE have been recreated and reassigned to ASC; and Academic Search Complete is remote searchable in Library OneSearch.

All entries for full-text titles in the Academic Search Elite collection have been withdrawn in SFX; and all full-text titles in Academic Search Complete activated. The additional titles in the ASC collection can immediately be discovered through SFX requests. Individual title level records for these additional full-text journals will be added to the main Library OneSearch index shortly.

New database resources in Science and Technology

Three new database resources in Science and Technology have been added to the database set in Library OneSearch, and are discoverable through the main All tab search and the Find a Database option:

ChemSpider
Access: Unrestricted
ChemSpider is a free chemical structure database providing fast access to over 25 million structures, properties and associated information. By integrating and linking compounds from more than 400 data sources, ChemSpider enables researchers to discover the most comprehensive view of freely available chemical data from a single online search. It is owned by the Royal Society of Chemistry, and users can update records.

ACS (American Chemical Society) publications
Access: On-campus: direct; Off-campus: University username and password
A-Z of current journal publication titles from the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society. Contains over 40 journals in the chemical and related sciences.

RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) journals
Access: On-campus: direct; Off-campus: none (although this should be available shortly)
A-Z of current journal titles from the Royal Society of Chemistry. scientific publisher of biology, biophysics, chemical science, materials, medicinal drug discovery and physics high-impact journals and books.

Database category and sub-category revisions

At the request of the Academic Liaison Team, a number of revisions have been made to the assignment of databases to Categories and Sub-Categories.

New Categories and Sub-Categories have been created; some existing Categories have been split or merged; and a number of databases have been reassigned within the category environment. (A full list of the changes made is available on request).

Previously, these categories were browseable within eSearch, and now they are reflected in two separate ways within Library OneSearch:

* Categories and Sub-Category assignments can be selected as both browse options and search filters in the Find a Database option in Library OneSearch (see illustration below).

* Category and Sub-Category assignments are searchable values in ‘All’ tab searches within Library OneSearch, and appear (as clickable new search options) within the Details display of all database results (see illustration below).

New resource: IEEE Xplore

The IEEE Xplore database, produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, has been enabled in Library OneSearch and SFX.

Access to the resource is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Produced by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and its publishing partners, this database delivers full text access to the world’s highest quality technical literature in engineering and technology. This database provides web access to almost 3 million full-text documents from some of the world’s most highly cited publications in electrical engineering, computer science and electronics. Content in IEEE Xplore comprises 151 journals, over 900 conference proceedings and more than 3,400 technical standards. NB: no access is available to ebooks or educational courses.

Individual title level records for IEEE journals, Conference Proceedings, Conference Series, Standards and other materials has been enabled in SFX. Individual title level journal records will be added to the main Library OneSearch index shortly. Article level and other content from the IEEE collection is already discoverable in ‘All’ searches in Library OneSearch.

EmeraldInsight – access problems

Technical problems are continuing to affect the EmeraldInsight platform.

Emerald’s technical team report that problems affecting one of the service’s main servers are causing sporadic loss of access to subscription content on the platform. This means that requests from both on-campus and off-campus NTU staff and students to content subscribed to by LLR can be intermittently refused.

Emerald hope to be able to reinstate stable access to full-text subscription content shortly.

Withdrawn resource: Credo Reference

The Credo Reference collection of eBook titles has been withdrawn from eSearch following the conclusion of LLR’s subscription to the service. Individual eBook records have also been withdrawn from the Library Catalogue. A small number of titles from the Credo Reference collection which appear on Resource Lists have been purchased outright, and catalogue records for those individual titles have been retained.
