Web of Knowledge – direct export to RefWorks enabled

August 1 2011

The ability to export references direct to RefWorks has been enabled in all Web of Knowledge services. A new RefWorks button appears in all relevant results screens (see example illustration below, from BIOSIS Previews).

The option to export multiple selected records direct to RefWorks is also now available in the ‘Marked List’ features (see illustration below):

Web of Knowledge – remote and metasearch configurations updated

August 1 2011

The remote and metasearch configurations for Web of Knowledge databases have been updated in eSearch. For the Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, Arts and Humanities Citation Index and BIOSIS Previews, searches now only retrieve record sets from those individual collections. To remote search the whole of the WoK collection in eSearch, select either the Web of Knowledge or Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings) options.

Problems affecting the Web of Knowledge service – update

July 25 2011

Performance issues are continuing to affect the Web of Knowledge service, but a new workaround off-campus access URL has been added to all WoK resources in eSearch – meaning that off-campus access to WoK databases is now available once again.

Problems affecting the Web of Knowledge service

July 19 2011

Following a series of upgrades on the Web of Knowledge platform (to support the migration to a new WoK interface), unanticipated technical problems are affecting the service.

Thomson ISI-MIMAS advise:

“We are currently experiencing performance issues with Web of Knowledge access, search and navigation. Our technical staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”

For most off-campus customers, Shibboleth based authentication (using a university username and password) is unavailable, either through eSearch or direct in the WoK interface.

The affected services are:

* Arts and Humanities Citation Index
* BIOSIS Previews (Web of Science)
* Journal Citation Reports
* Science Citation Index
* Social Science Citation Index
* Web of Knowledge
* Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)

Service alerts have been added to all of these resources in eSearch. A further update will follow once these service problems are confirmed as resolved

BIOSIS Previews – access configuration updated

July 30 2010

An issue preventing some access requests to BIOSIS Previews in eSearch from resolving correctly has now been corrected. All requests to BIOSIS Previews now resolve appropriately to the Web of Knowledge portal. Remote and metasearching of BIOSIS Previews is also now working consistently in eSearch.

Web of Knowledge – service issues

April 8 2010

MIMAS and Thomson-ISI have acknowledged problems affecting all of the database on the Web of Knowledge platform. Responses times on the platform are intermittently slow, and search terms can at times fail to return a results set. The affected services are:

* Arts & Humanities Citation Index
* Journal Citation Reports
* Science Citation Index
* Social Sciences Citation Index
* Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)
* Web of Knowledge

Web of Knowledge – access problems resolved

November 27 2009

Access problems affecting the WoK service reported earlier this week appear to have been resolved. Work by technical staff on the Thomson Reuters team did not identify any specific remote cause for the problem but are continuing to monitor the situation. Please contact Lib eServices if you encounter a recurrence of access difficulties.

Web of Knowledge access problems continue

November 25 2009

We’re still experiencing problems with access to Web of Knowledge – get ‘Page cannot be displayed’ error message, or the web page doesn’t display correctly.  Thomson Reuters, who provide the technical support for this resource, are investigating the problems.

ISI – Web of Knowledge – Shibboleth authentication

June 26 2009

Off-campus access to all of LLR’s resources delivered through the ISI – Web of Knowledge platform is now by university username and password (using the Shibboleth framework).

The resources involved are:

  • Arts & Humanities Citation Index
  • Journal Citation Reports
  • Science Citation Index
  • Social Sciences Citation Index
  • Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)
  • Web of Knowledge

All links in eSearch have been updated accordingly. A guide to using Shibboleth authentication on the ISI – Web of Knowledge platform has been added to the eServices support wiki.

Web of Science – renamed in eSearch as ‘Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)’

May 1 2009

To reflect the reorganisation of content on the Web of Knowledge platform, the ‘Web of Science’ entry has been renamed to ‘Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)’.

For this platform LLR has entries in eSearch for Web of Knowledge (which is the over-arching service, that includes all the separate components); separate subject-specific listings for the Science Citation Index; Social Sciences Citation Index; Arts & Humanities Citation Index; and Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings); and, finally, a separate entry for Journal Citation Reports.

Web of Knowledge – service problems resolved

December 12 2008

MIMAS report that the problems affecting the Web of Knowledge service earlier today have been confirmed as resolved – all services should now be operating normally.

Please contact the eServices team if you continue to encounter access problems to WoK resources.
